About

Infineon Technologies designs and manufactures semiconductors and system solutions. They operate through four segments: Automotive, Industrial Power Control, Power Management & Multimarket, and Chip Card & Security. In 2011, Infineon sold the mobile communications segment to Intel, with the resulting company operating as Intel Mobile Communications (IMC). More recently in 2020, Infineon bought Cypress Semiconductor, a Californian chip manufacturer.

Infineon announced in February 2022 that it will invest more than $2 billion to expand its fab in Kulim, Malaysia. Construction is set to begin in June 2022 with equipment installation starting in summer 2024. In the same month, Infineon also said is tentatively planning a $700 million investment in its semiconductor fab at its Southeast Austin campus in Texas.
