About

STMicroelectronics is a French-Italian company based in Switzerland. The company was formed due to the merger of government-owned manufacturers Thomas Semiconducteurs and SGS Microelettronica in 1987. As a chip-making company, it manufactures and markets products including discrete and standard commodity components, and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for analogue, digital and mixed-signal applications. Its 6 principal wafer fabs are located in Italy, France and Singapore, though the company also has presence in China, Malaysia, Malta, Morocco, and the Philippines with their assembly, test and packaging sites.
