Register here for the second event in the series 'Expertise in Semiconductor Facilities Operations', taking place on May 12th 2022.

UPM is launching a series of events will provide the community with a blueprint for the Ultrapure Micro Conference 2022 theme, “Facility 2.0”. This series of online meetings will deconstruct the unprecedented challenges facing a rapidly expanding industry, so the community can explore solutions to these challenges at our annual conference in September.

Semiconductor manufacturing facilities are undergoing unparalleled, transformational changes. The drivers for the changes are numerous and each one of them is critical to the mission of the industry. Existing pressures – such as time-to-market urgency, supply chain constraints, construction magnitude, expertise shortages, sustainability targets, and manufacturing technology upgrades – are more challenging than ever before. For the first time facilities are being built for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) tools and 3D geometries, and devices continue to become more complex. As such, micro-contamination control and yield have never been more critical, and fabs require unprecedented quantities of water and energy. The industry must prepare itself to deal with such complexity at the same time as a fab construction boom and prevailing supply chain problems.

UPM is bringing the industry experts to collaboratively face the reality of the industry and explore innovative ways of coping with the challenges of the industrial facility world. Deconstructing these issues through community events, the UPM 2022 annual conference in September will explore solutions.

The first of these meetings took place on April 7th 2022: ‘Yield and Reliability Drivers and the Implications for Facility 2.0’.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Slava Libman, CEO, FTD Solutions (moderator)
  • Dan Wilcox, Principal - Director Process Engineering, Page
  • Mustafa Badaroglu, Principal Engineer/Architect, Qualcomm
  • Supika Mashiro, EHS Strategy Planning and Standard Strategy Expert, Tokyo Electron

The first community event discussed the complexity of the advanced devices and the technology needs to enable quality output. The panel discussed critical developments, including: growing demand for a greater range of devices with longer life expectancy and higher performance; 3D architectures and device complexity driving the need for micro-contamination control; digitization and data flow management changing the organization of facilities; and proactive quality management for higher performance treatment systems and high purity materials. This online meeting featured presentations from IRDS experts in the field, expert-led panel discussions, before finally concluding with a brainstorming of ideas in the networking roundtable session.

Do you have solutions to some of the problems of Facility 2.0? We are excited to announce that we are now accepting abstracts for speakers at the Ultrapure Micro 2022 Annual Conference! With an agenda steered by industry experts, the annual conference provides strong technical papers to support the collaboration between end-users and service or technology providers. The annual conference will be held from the 28th – 30th of September 2022. Please submit your abstract via this form by May 23rd 2022, at 11:59PM PST. Please find extended information about the conference theme, as well as what makes a successful submission, here.
